Sarah Farmer

I am a certified play therapist and filial play coach registered with PTUK.  I have experience of delivering both individual and group play therapy sessions with children aged 4-11 years old in mainstream primary schools. I have experience working with fostered and adopted children, as well as with children struggling with challenging behaviours and traumatic experiences. I am also a qualified teacher with 20 years teaching experience in both secondary and primary schools.

During my primary teaching, I became very interested in children’s behaviours and how that affected their learning and ability to access education successfully and ultimately to achieve their potential. I felt that by working with younger children, it may help me to understand where these behaviours might stem from. Whilst I loved teaching, I became increasingly frustrated that as a class teacher I was not able to work closely and support those children that needed more time and help, which was when my play therapy journey began. I have recently given up my teaching role to focus on supporting children and parents through play therapy and filial play coaching.

I am a child centred, non-directive play therapist who is passionate about giving children the right therapeutic space and time to begin a journey of growth and self-discovery to enable them to make positive changes in their life.

I work primarily with children aged 4-11. I do not have a private practice; therefore, I travel to work with children in their educational setting. I am based in Shropshire, but I am also able to consider work in the West Midlands and Staffordshire.
